Meditation –  Know Stillness. Know Peace.

Peace. In a world of injustice, violence, suffering and death what does it mean to know peace?  The news is littered with the many ways that humans do harm to themselves, others and the environment. True peace can’t be legislated or forced.  Peace and justice movements continue. Yet, within the ranks of these movements where is the commitment to a peace and justice that begins within? True peace and justice begins within our hearts. We must never take for granted that because we advocate for peace and justice that we’ve truly embraced these twin virtues within ourselves. A rigorous daily examination of our selves can uncover where we’re doing harm to ourselves, others or the environment.  This uncovering confirms where the first work must begin.  Know stillness.  Know peace.

Weapons of war are instruments of fear,
and are not favoured by the wise,
who use them only when there is no choice,
for peace and stillness are dear to their hearts,
and victory causes them no rejoicing.

Chapter 31 – Tao Te Ching

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
