Flowing with true Light and Love.

Knowing and we’re known.

And he said to them,

Pay attention to what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you.

Joy & Innerscape

Meditation: Joy & Innerscape

A beautiful landscape is a joy to behold. While living with the monks at New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur, towards the end of 2012 and early 2013, it was a pleasure to visit a particularly beautiful part of California.  New Camaldoli Hermitage is perched above the Pacific Ocean. New Camaldoli offers a commanding view of the surrounding landscape.  Equally beautiful was the opportunity to explore the innerscape. The innerscape included the prayers within the hermitage chapel, quiet walks around a still forest pool a few miles above the monastery, and sharing with the community at the hermitage.

The innerscape also included exploring silence, solitude, simplicity of life, and service to others as I worked in the bakery, cleaned guestrooms, and washed dishes in the kitchen.  We don’t have to go on a mountain retreat to explore the innerscape of our lives. All that’s needed is attentiveness to the stillness that lives within us all.

Listen for the yearning within yourself and others.  Even when our yearnings are misdirected they tell of a hunger for truth and beauty.  May all your yearnings lead you back to your native home.  Your native home is the inner landscape of beauty that is uniquely you.  As we cultivate this inner stillness we radiate a beauty that’s a gift to others.  Enjoy the journey.

The natural way is the way of the sage,
serving as his dwelling,
providing his centre deep within,
whether in his home or journeying.
Even when he travels far,
he is not separate
from his own true nature.
Maintaining awareness of natural beauty,
he still does not forget his purpose.

Chapter 26 – Tao Te Ching

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment,

such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes.

Rather, it should be that of your inner self,

the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

I Peter 3: 3-4
