Meditation: Change

Do you hear the invitation to grow? Do you hear the invitation to change? Change into what? To change, transform, and be your authentic self.

Who is like the wise? Who knows the explanation of things? A person’s wisdom brightens their face and changes its hard appearance.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Change yourself.  Change the world.

The sage of old was profound and wise;
like a person at a ford, she took great care,
alert, perceptive, and aware.
Desiring nothing for herself,
and having no desire
for change for its own sake,
her actions were difficult to understand.

Transformation

Meditation: Transformation

So often we try to change the outside world.  This is appropriate at times.  Yet, so much energy goes into changing other people, places, and things when what is most needed is to change our self.  All true and lasting change takes place within our own hearts and minds.  Tools for inner transformation and change are on this site.  True and lasting healthy change may come through meditation, yoga, centering prayer or other spiritual disciplines.  Any worthy discipline will lead to an inner transformation and reorientation that grounds us in the beauty of compassion towards all life.

Focus on your inner journey.  Then watch how your outer journey is transformed. Once you change your inner world – for the better – you’ll bring your light, love, laughter, and life-giving spirit to others.  Enjoy the journey.

When pursuing knowledge,
something new is acquired each day.
But when pursuing the way of the Tao,
something is subtracted;
less striving occurs,
until there is no striving.
When effort is uncontrived,
nothing is left undone;
the way of nature rules
by allowing things to take their course,
not by contriving to change.

Peace & Transformation

Meditation: Peace and Transformation

Transformation is inevitable.  Change is ongoing.  We can’t control some of the things that happen to us. We can change how we deal with what happens to us.  We can change our approach to life. What we become is determined by what we seek and do regardless of what happens to us. With a commitment to loving-kindness and forgiveness we’re daily transformed into the beauty we were created to be.  Regardless of the changes, mishaps, and challenges of life we can commit to inner change rooted in loving-kindness.  Here are some daily disciplines for becoming transformed by the renewing of heart and mind:

1. Change in Spirit.

Daily loving-kindness meditation fosters a beautiful inner change.  See the links on meditation, mindfulness, and metta (loving-kindness) on this website or other online and offline resources that anchor us in lives of compassion.

2. Change in Consciousness

A commitment to thoughts that heal leads to words and actions that are healing.  Likewise, a commitment to words and actions that are healing helps to change our thought life.  Commit to thoughts, words, and actions that are healing and compassionate.  This is the path of inner transformation that heals the self and others.

3. Change in Body

Be gentle with your body. Eat well.  Exercise regularly.  Breathe.

Enjoy the journey.

Love & Evolution

Meditation: Love and Evolution

Everything Changes.

How are we changing?  Is the change in you life-giving  or destructive?

Life-giving spiritual disciplines  evolve us into the beauty that lies within us.

Daily resolve to evolve into the beauty that you are.

One step at a time.  One day at a time.  One moment at a time.

Enjoy the journey.

Through experience,
the sage becomes aware that all things change,
and the one who seems to lead,
might also, in another situation, follow.
So the sage does nothing; she neither leads nor follows.
That which the sage does is neither big nor small;
without intent, it is neither difficult,
nor done with ease.
Her task completed, she then lets go of it;
seeking no credit, she cannot be discredited.
Thus, her teaching lasts for ever,
and she is held in high esteem.

The Parable of the Two Sons

“What do you think?

A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ He answered, ‘I will not’; but later he changed his mind and went. The father went to the second and said the same; and he answered, ‘I go, sir’; but he did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.”

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and even after you saw it, you did not change your minds and believe him.

Matthew 21: 28-32

Tao Meditation Seasons

Meditation: Everything Changes

Change is inevitable.  For some things, we have rehearsals to help us navigate life with greater ease. Meditations are not rehearsals but they do help the process of meeting each day with greater ease, spaciousness, and generosity.

With no rehearsal, each day we’re thrust into a space of time that never was before and will never be again.  So how shall we live?  The beauty of experience is that we can reflect on our past journeys and gather a sense of eternal truth.  There are some things that transcend time.  Everything changes, but love transcends time and change.  Love is always in season. Likewise, the nine fruit of the Great Spirit (Galatians 5: 22-23) are always in season and remain timeless treasures.  The nine fruit of the Great Spirit are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control. Everything changes. Love transcends the changes of time.  Enjoy the journey.

Everything Has Its Time

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Meditation – Great growth begins with small changes.

Perestroika.  When I visited Russia in 1988 it was in the midst of a movement of reform known as Perestroika.  Perestroika means restructuring.  For better or worst, this restructuring touched the political, economic and social life of all Russians.  When we change one aspect of our life, our entire being is transformed.  So we must be intentional and mindful of what changes we embrace.  Healthy transformation takes a commitment to the healing process. The slow process of healthy transformation is not always readily apparent.  This restructuring may take place in ways barely noticeable. When we change our diet, friendships, physical location, various habits, disciplines, or other aspects of our life this restructuring touches the whole of our being.  So if we want to change our life for the better, we can begin with small mindful steps.  Small healthy changes, sustained over time, will reap great rewards. Try getting up an hour earlier to meditate for 20-30 minutes and slowly ease into your day. Try moving through your day at a slower pace. Try eating less meat and more fruits and vegetables.  There are plenty of resources to explain why this can aid your physical and spiritual life. Listen to your own body-mind-spirit and take the small steps that will lead to great transformation.

When it comes to restructuring or transforming your life, slow is beautiful. Are you devoted to your healing process?  Let the restructuring begin. Enjoy the journey.
