Om is a sacred sound or invocation. Om is a deep, rich and beautiful sound that reminds us of creation and the vibration of our true nature. There are certain people, simply by hearing their voice we’re comforted. When I think of dear friends that have passed on, one of the things I miss is the sound of their voice. Anita. Douglas. Lois. Gloria. James. Rosa. Lola. Cyprian. And the list goes on. Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. Yet, we can’t confirm the sound texture of Jesus’ voice. The disciples of Jesus hear his voice. The inner voice of wisdom and love. All who ask and seek this voice will hear it. There are many ways to hear this voice. Some of the ways we hear this voice of love is through prayer, nature, worship, being still, being silent, walking meditation, service to others and works of mercy (Matthew 25:31-46). What sound will you leave behind? How does the sound of your voice touch the lives of others? Are you a comfort? Are you the sound of compassion, healing and love? In a noisy world with so many irrelevant, mechanistic and unpleasant sounds it’s important to offer something beautiful to the mix. Be the sound of beauty in someone’s ears. Enjoy the journey.

Humility is the root
of great nobility;
the low forms a foundation
for the great;
and princes consider themselves
to be of little worth”.
Each depends on humility therefore;
it is of no advantage to have too much success,
so do not sound loudly like jade bells,
nor clatter like stone chimes.
Chapter 39 – Tao Te Ching
Elijah Meets God at Horeb
He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence.
