Meditation: Loving-Kindness

When I was a kid growing up in the 1960’s, I remember enjoying a song called Good Vibrations.  Although my musical tastes ran more towards the sound of Motown, this song, by the Beach Boys, was good fun and is now a classic of American rock music. I still enjoy this song. Each time we encounter a person, place, or thing we experience a certain vibration.  Likewise, we also offer a certain vibration to our environment.  The question is, what vibration do we offer at any given moment?  The regular discipline and practice of loving-kindess meditation – while alone or with others –  enables us to bring good vibrations to each encounter.  Enjoy the journey.

The ordinary person seeks to make themself
the centre of their universe;
the universe of the sage is at her centre.
She loves the world, and thus remains unmoved
by things with which others are concerned.
She acts with humility, is neither moved nor moving,
and can therefore be trusted in caring for all things.

Chapter 13 – Tao Te Ching

He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
    and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
    and to walk humbly with your God?
