Meditation; Character Matters

What is the content of our character? Martin Luther King, Jr., in his famous I Have a Dream speech noted,

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. How do these words resonate with us today in a culture that allows some of the most vile language to be broadcast over the airwaves, a lack of respect for difference is imbedded in many sectors of our society, and a disregard for elders, the most vulnerable, and the least of these is our midst, is still all too common. The change that needs to happen is not “out there” but within me, within you, within individuals that care enough to seek inner transformation.

Stop wasting energy trying to change others. Go within. Be transformed by the renewing you your mind.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
